Finding Nemo Review; 14 years on...

Finding Nemo is a movie about a kidnapping of a young fish and how his dad finds him going through a lot of trouble. It has extreme ideas for a kid’s movie. Some ideas are gangsters (the sharks), weapons and warfare (the minesweepers blowing and nearly killing the sharks) and addiction (Marlin and Dory were addicted to the light by the shark. Many would say it is Taken for little kids. The similarities between the movies are the dads are looking for their child and went through a lot of trouble.

Speaking about trouble, directors have to choose the right voice actors. Especially for the iconic kid movies like Finding Nemo. As it leaves an impact on the viewers. For example, the voice actor of Nemo (Alexander Gould) is still remember for his cute, high pitched and excited voice. Squirt (Nicholas Bird) or the cute little turtle who even left Marlin (Albert Brooks) in dismay before jumping out of the ECA. Even though Squirt wasn’t a main character, his cute voice left an impact on us. Which was mostly aww or into a break of laughter. The main characters such as Nemo, Dory, Marlin or any other character left a mark on us.  Which shows that that the directors have done the right casting.
Nemo, the character whose name is in the title making him one of the main characters. He contributed to the main theme of “family first “by starting the problem by not listening to his dad. The character was developed properly but it was flawed in some parts of the movie. For example, When the Dentist tried to Nemo the second time, nemo fell in his trap by swimming backwards other than that the part there was no other flaw. The voice actor (Alexander Gould) did a good job and expressed Nemo’s expressions really nicely. Marlin, who is Nemo’s dad. Contribute by going after Nemo. Albert Brooks low pitched, slow and natural voice made him seem more experienced and wise. His character was developed properly thoroughly throughout the movie and didn’t fall short. Dory also is a really important character as she helps Marlin find Nemo and also diverts him into having fun for the first time after his wife’s death. For example, Dory forgot about the conversation Marlin and she had ( when they first met) and thought Marlin was stalking her. This caused Marlin to have a breakdown.  Dory helped Marlin by reading the scuba diving mask when Marlin was fending of the Glowing shark. And the part where she speaks whale to the whale when the camera was panning around to show that nobody was near them.  Her character was developed properly throughout the film.

The aspect of the film I liked was Marlin’s journey to find Nemo. But I think that Nemo at the dentist’s could have been developed a tad bit more.  Dory (Ellen DeGeneres)  performance was exceptionally good and was built on nicely. Dory as a total character was fun for the side story and can have a larger role. This is why I give the movie a 9.5 out of 10.
